William Merritt Centre aims to enable greater independence for individuals who have long term medical conditions. This includes mental health conditions.

They deliver the following assessments and advice in Sheffield:

Driver Assessments

William Merritt’s team of occupational therapists and approved driving instructors provide driver assessments.  They assess whether your condition affects your ability to drive. They then recommend suitable adaptions to keep you safe.

The appointment will consist of a short interview followed by an on-road assessment where you will drive one of their vehicles around the local area.

This service is free with an NHS referral.

Car Access

A car access assessment is to help identify possible solutions if you are having difficulty getting in and out of your car.

The assessment consists of a brief interview where you discuss the difficulties you’re facing accessing your car.

This service is free if it takes place at a William Merritt Centre. It costs £40 to have it done at your house.

They also provide driving lessons but these come at a cost.
