SODIT provide support for women or those who identify as women in Sheffield who are experiencing mental health difficulties/distress or living with mental illness.

The charity is peer led and everybody who works or volunteers there has lived experience of navigating life living with a mental illness. They provide a wide range of free services including 1-1 counselling, peer support groups and psycho-educational courses such as Wellness Planning and DBT skills.

They also offer opportunities to engage in holistic wellbeing interventions such as their Nature Connections group and their arts based Storying course.

Groups and Courses

SODIT provide regular groups such as :

  • Survivor-led Peer Support Group: Tuesdays 12:30pm – 2:30pm and Thursdays 4:30pm – 6:30pm.
  • Nature Connections: Tuesdays 10:30am – 12:30pm. Gently explores different ways in which to connect with the natural world around us.
  • Wellness Planning and Beyond (8 week course): Wednesdays – 10:30am – 12:30pm. Teaches skills to better manage your mental health and wellbeing.
  • An Introduction to DBT Skills (8 week course): Alternate Thursdays 10:30am – 12:30pm. An introduction to the 4 core Dialectical Behavioural Therapy skills.
  • Storying (8 week course): Alternate Thursdays 10:30 – 12:30pm. Guides you through a range of exercises designed to help us connect with the story of who we are beyond our mental health. Using methods such as creative writing, poetry, painting, photography & filmmaking.

Please contact [email protected] for more information on courses or to book a place.

Places must be booked through Sodit’s referral system, please do not turn up for groups without booking a place.

Counselling

SODIT provide free 1:1 counselling with both qualified counsellors and students.  They use an integrated therapy approach. At some points their waiting list closes, so please check their website.

Unfortunately, it is not always possible for 1:1 therapy to be immediately available due to the small size of the charity.  They therefore offer “therapeutic holding” which can offer a valuable space for you to talk about how you are and how your mental health is whilst you await a counsellor. It is not therapy but it can be therapeutic to “clear your head” and to express your thoughts and feelings to someone who is listening without judgement.

To request counselling, call T: 0114 279 5970 or E: [email protected]
