Nature Connections is a weekly women’s group run by SODIT (Survivors of Depression in Transition).
The benefits of spending time in nature upon our mental health and wellbeing are well documented. They invite all women struggling with their mental health to take part in a rolling programme of seasonal nature-based activities.
In a safe and supportive environment they gently explore different ways in which to connect with the natural world around us.
SODIT have a Community Garden and enjoy working outside growing their own plants and vegetables, connecting with each other as they watch their garden grow together. The group learn about all the different species of plants and wildlife in the garden and enjoy creating a haven for nature in an urban area. The group learn many green skills that are easily transferrable to home for those wishing to get growing!
If they are working inside they embark upon nature based activities such as crafting and building items using natural objects or creating artwork inspired by (or using) parts of the natural world.
Using the Five Ways to Wild Wellbeing they learn to tune into our senses, be curious about our world, connect with others and discover meaning whilst cultivating a compassionate approach towards taking care of ourselves.
