Multi-Agency Psychological Support for Looked After Children (MAPS) are a small team of professionals from health, social services and education whose role is to respond to the mental health needs of children and young people who are looked after by Sheffield City Council.

They take an individual and tiered approach to offering services, depending on a child’s need.  Their input can range between ‘Brief Intervention’ to ‘Multisystemic Intervention’.

As the child or young person’s Social Worker holds parental responsibility, they have to make the referral.  Access the team by calling the advice and referrals line (0114 226 0876) in one of the following ways:

  • Advice Line – Any carer or professional with concerns about the emotional health of a looked-after child can talk to someone for advice on Mondays 10am – 12noon.
  • Face-to-face Consultations – One hour slots are available (Tues 12.30pm and 1.30pm; Weds 3pm) for Social Workers to book and discuss concerns about a child or young person’s emotional wellbeing.
  • Referrals line – referrals co-ordinator is available on the telephone to discuss potential referrals Fri between 10.30am and 12.30pm.
  • Adoptive families – they have a limited remit for work with adoptive families. Adoptive parents can access their Advice Line or a brief intervention if that would be helpful.
