The Sheffield Youth Justice Service are the Youth Offending Team (YOT) for Sheffield. They are part of a multi-agency statutory partnership between:

  • Sheffield City Council’s Children, Young People and Families Services
  • South Yorkshire Police
  • South Yorkshire Probation Trust
  • NHS Sheffield

They are responsible for:

  • Providing an appropriate adult for unaccompanied young people in police custody
  • Intervening with young people subject to a Final Warning issued by South Yorkshire Police
  • Bail supervision for young people going through Court
  • The operation of community sentences
  • The oversight of young people in custody
  • Enforcing court orders
  • Providing support to parents
  • Finding out the views of victims and encouraging their involvement

The primary aim is to prevent offending and re-offending by young people aged 10-17 years as well as supporting young people who are involved in the Criminal Justice system. They operate an assessment system to help identify suitable programmes to address the needs of each individual young person with the intention of prevention any further offending.
