Education and Therapeutic Programmes
They provides a unique learning environment on their working farm. Their programmes are designed to be nurturing and supportive, using “real farm jobs” and therapeutic activities to help young people grow physically, emotionally, and creatively. The programmes are particularly beneficial for those who struggle in mainstream education or require a more practical, hands-on approach to learning.
- Secondary Education (Alternative Provision): A practical programme for secondary-aged pupils to develop coping strategies and life skills. Activities include animal care, environmental work, and developing culinary skills in ‘The Gateway’ teaching kitchen. The focus is on building confidence and improving future employability.
- Whirlow LIFE (Post-18): Aimed at young adults with personal budgets, this programme focuses on developing essential skills for independent living. It includes vocational training in horticulture and animal care and runs five days a week, fifty weeks of the year.
- Day and Residential Visits: Educational stays at the farm designed to help children gain independence and social skills. The residential stays can often be a first experience of being away from home, helping to build self-confidence.
- Therapeutic Learning: All activities are tailored to the individual needs of the learner, with personal goals set to help them explore their capacity for growth in a safe, outdoor environment.
