Sheffield Carers Service provides support, information and advice for adults who provide unpaid care for family and friends who are disabled, ill, frail, have mental health problems or addiction issues. Carers might be caring for more than one person, and doing so for varying amounts of time.
Sheffield Carers Service was previously known as the Sheffield Carers Centre, and became part of Crossroads Care Charity in 2026.
Services
Their range of free services to help you navigate the challenges of caring include:
- Carer Advice Line: personalised expert advice on anything related to your caring role. One of the team is an Urdu and Punjabi speaker, and they use an interpretation service for other languages.
- Carer Support Groups: take place at various locations around Sheffield on a regular basis. They are an opportunity to meet other people with caring roles.
- Information and Resources: access to a wide range of information and resources that can provide practical help with your caring role.
- Carer Activities: a range of regular activities for carers to have a break from their caring role and look after their own wellbeing.
- Carer Connect: telephone support service that provides regular phone calls from volunteers to reduce social isolation and connect carers with their local communities.
- Carer Card: offers discounts on a range of services, products and activities from local and national businesses; plus space to record two emergency contact numbers.
- Legal Advice Clinic: Free 30-minute individual legal advice sessions with a legal expert, offering advice around topics such as wills, estate planning and power of attorney. Clinics are held on a monthly basis.
- Emergency Planning: they provide information to help carers make an emergency plan if something unexpectedly stopped them from looking after the person they care for.
- Digital Resources for Carers: free online ‘Digital Resources for Carers’ which is provided by Carers UK and Sheffield City Council, that includes information, eLearning, resources, and the Jointly app.
- Carers E-newsletter: free monthly publication is emailed to carers and provides up-to-date information about their services and activities, along with key news items that affect carers.
If you are caring for an adult who lives in Sheffield you can also access the following support:
- Carer’s Needs Assessment: A carer’s assessment provides an opportunity to discuss the impact of your caring role with their Carer Advisors, who will discuss the support you might need and help put this in place.
- Time for a Break Grant: Small grants for short breaks or activities that support wellbeing and help you take a break from your caring role. They’ll assess your eligibility as part of a Carers Assessment.

Carers can find out about all their services and discuss any aspect of their caring role or the impact it is having on their wellbeing by phoning the confidential Carer Advice Line on 0114 272 8362 and speaking to a specialist Carer Adviser.
Young Carers
If you’re a young carer (aged 8–18) information and support is available from Sheffield Young Carers.
