Refugee Council is a national charity, supporting refugees to rebuild their lives, integrate into communities and play a part in Britain.

They provide services across the country.

In Sheffield the Refugee Council provide the following services:

Children and Families Wellbeing Support

This service works with vulnerable refugee children and their families, who come to the UK through:

  • VPRS (Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme)
  • VCRS (Vulnerable Children’s Resettlement Scheme)
  • Gateway Protection Programme
  • UKRS (United Kingdom Resettlement Scheme)
  • Afghan resettlement programmes e.g. ACRS (Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme) and ARAP (Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy)

They are unable to work with unaccompanied child refugees who arrived outside resettlement schemes or came from Europe to join family.

Their therapists and interpreters specialise in working with refugee children and families. Through early intervention and crisis point management, they help children feel safe and secure, enable them to benefit from education, and support them in understanding and expressing themselves. They can also help parents/carers and teachers to understand and manage the child’s difficulties.

They provide training for educational staff working with refugee children and can also help schools put in place effective support strategies.
