They have a helpline to support those living in care, on the edge of care, a care leaver, or supporting someone who is. It offers confidential advocacy support, guidance and referrals to support children, young people and adults in vulnerable situations. You can contact their helpline by:
- Phone T: 0808 808 1001 (9am to 8pm Monday to Friday, and 10am – 4pm Saturday)
- Online Chat via their website (availability varies)
- Email E: [email protected] (for non-urgent enquiries)
They offer a mental health advocacy service for young people and vulnerable adults who are being cared for under the Mental Health Act.
A NYAS mental health advocate can:
- Provide clarity on what it means to be detained under the Mental Health Act, including what rights a patient has.
- Provide support with applications to the Mental Health Tribunal.
- Clarify any conditions or restrictions which apply, such as whether a patient can leave the hospital.
- Explain what medical treatment is, or may be provided, and why.
- Attend meetings to make sure the voice of the patient is clearly heard, and their wishes respected wherever possible.
Referrals can be made by a health professional online via their Service Request form.
