The Mental Health Collaborative in Sheffield is set up by Rethink Mental Illness.

The aim of this group is to create opportunities for adults with lived experience to input into decision making across mental health services in Sheffield.

People in a steering group meet regularly to talk about barriers they’ve faced when trying to get mental health support. They suggest ways to make it easier for others to get help. People who have personal experience with these issues (Experts by Experience) are often invited to take part in co-production, where they can share their stories with local decision-makers, like people from the Sheffield City Council and Sheffield Health & Social Care.

They welcome new people to become a Rethink Expert by Experience. If you have personal experience with mental illness and have used mental health services in Sheffield, either for yourself or as a carer for someone else, you’re eligible to apply.

Experts by Experience are paid for their time and any expenses they incur.

They typically open applications every six months in June and December.

There are a limited number of places for Experts by Experience. If you are not selected or all spots are filled, you can be added to a waiting list for the next round of recruitment.

For more information, or to request an application form, please contact the Mental Health Collaborative.
