Galop is a national LGBT+ anti-violence charity offering advice and support to people who have experienced biphobia, homophobia, transphobia, sexual violence or domestic abuse. They also support lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer people who have had problems with the police or have questions about the criminal justice system.

Helpline

They provide a National LGBT+ Domestic Abuse Helpline which offers emotional and practical support for LGBT+ people, aged 18+, experiencing domestic abuse, whether that’s physical, psychological, emotional, financial or sexual.

The LGBT+ Domestic Abuse Helpline (Tel: 0800 999 5428) is open:

  • Monday – Tuesday: 9:15am – 8pm
  • Wednesday – Friday: 9:15am – 4:30pm

Translation services are available to those who do not have English as a first language and would prefer to speak in their native language.  When you call, let them know what language you would feel most comfortable speaking to them in.

Support Services

Galop provide advocacy and casework support for LGBT+ people who have experience abuse and violence. Advocates and caseworkers work with clients, based on what each individual person needs. Translation services are available to those who do not have English as a first language, and they can access a BSL interpreter if you are Deaf.

They also provide information about different kinds of abuse on their website, along with resources and publications.

Children and Young People

In addition Galop provides free, confidential and independent support for LGBT+ young people aged 13 to 25. See their Children and Young People page.
