City of Sanctuary is a national charity working in solidarity with people seeking sanctuary in the UK. This includes asylum seekers and refugees.

City of Sanctuary Sheffield provide the following services:

The Sanctuary

The Sanctuary is a community centre and safe space for asylum seekers, refugees, migrants and locals. They can relax, seek advice and support, and attend groups such as ESOL and sewing groups. A number of other organisations run their services from The Sanctuary, such as South Yorkshire Refugee Law and Justice.

The Sanctuary also organise community events. These enable people from different backgrounds to meet and share food, music and other aspects of their cultures.

The Sanctuary is open 10am-4pm, Monday-Thursday.

The Drop-in

Every Wednesday 1-4pm, City of Sanctuary Sheffield organises a multi-agency drop-in at Victoria Hall (Norfolk St, Sheffield City Centre, Sheffield S1 2JB) where asylum seekers and refugees come for help and advice.

Services include: ASSIST, Shelter, Citizens’ Advice, SAVTE (Sheffield Association for the Voluntary Teaching of English), Sexual Health Sheffield, local MPs and solicitors, LGBT+ support and free clothes.

Sheffield Project for Refugee Integration and Growth (SPRING Project)

This project is a collaboration between six organisations to provide support for refugees in their first year of having leave to remain. They provide support around housing, benefits, employment, ESOL and volunteering.

The Asylum Journey is a website run by Sheffield City of Sanctuary to help asylum seekers and refugees navigate the different services they may need to access. It has its own entry on the Mental Health Guide.
