Treatments Print E-mail
There are a number of different kinds of treatments that may be offered to people with mental health difficulties. Each treatment has its own benefits and drawbacks. Over recent years the range of help has increased significantly and has provided more choice. This is important as everyone is unique and what works for one person may not be the right thing for another. Some treatments may be used in conjunction with others.

Finding the right service can be difficult, particularly as what is available may vary. It is important to find out good information about the different options for treatment in order to make an informed choice. This website attempts to describe what to expect when seeking help and the Service Search will help find services available for people in Sheffield.

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) provides guidance for most mental health conditions, recommending treatment options for different levels of severity. However, it should be noted that some people consider NICE guidelines around mental health to be rather narrow in focus.

NICE guidance can be found at www.nice.org.uk. Click on the tabs for a brief description of the main treatments that might be offered to people with mental health difficulties.
