Users of mental health services may also need help to deal with drug or alcohol dependence. Drug and alcohol treatment in Sheffield is commissioned by the Drug and Alcohol Action Team (DAAT). The team is part of the Safer Communities Partnership, which includes partners from the Council, health, police and probation. A range of services are commissioned from both the NHS and voluntary organisations. The DAAT works closely with partners, treatment providers, service users and carers to ensure there is a range of quality services to meet the needs of Sheffield people. All treatment agencies provide a service to those who need it, including those with mental health problems. However, those with severe problems may need more specialised help and the Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust (SHSC) is able to give an additional level of support. SHSC only accepts referrals from GPs and other professionals. A range of different treatments are available for people with alcohol problems. a Single Entry and Assessment Point (SEAP) has been set up to ensure that each person gets an appointment at a place that is best for them. SEAP can be contacted on 0845 345 1549. Anyone can self-refer to SEAP or they can be referred by a professional. If you are concerned about someone you know you can refer them to SEAP as long as they are happy for you to do so. An appointment will be made with an alcohol worker to draw up a care plan and help you decide on treatment. They offer advice, information, support and counselling around drug and alcohol related issues. Referrals can be made by self or others. The Corner also offer advice and information for parents, carers and other family members, education sessions for young people and training and consultancy for other workers.
