Sheffield Young Carers
Sheffield Young Carers is a registered charity and voluntary project which provides information, advice and support for children and young people (aged 8-25 years) who care for, or who share the care of someone (usually in their family) who is ill, has a disability, has mental health problems or who is affected by alcohol or substance use.
The service aims to reduce the isolation that young carers often experience and give them increased access to a range of social, educational and employment opportunities.
Young carers are supported by offering one to one support, group activities for various age groups at various venues accross the city, respite and support with education, employment and training. They also work with their funding partners, the NHS and Sheffield City Council, and a number of other organisations, to make sure that additional support is available to young carers.
They also have a family worker who can work with the person you care for, to help them get what they need so you can do less caring at home. This service is only available for families where the person at home has mental ill-health or a drug or alcohol problem (they could also have a physical illness or disability alongside this though).
