SAGE (Support Arts Gardening Education)
SAGE runs gardening, arts and related activities for adults experiencing mental health issues, ranging from mild anxiety and depression through to more severe and enduring conditions. They can also accommodate adults who have a dual diagnosis of learning disability and/or physical disability.
Projects they run include:
- Greenfingers - this is a horticultural therapy project and is their main undertaking. It takes place on Grimesthorpe allotments in Burngreave providing opportunities for people with mental health issues to improve their health and wellbeing through gardening. The allotment is wheelchair accessible. There is also a women only gardening session on Mondays.
- Singing Workshops - this is a women only series of workshops designed to build confidence and self-esteem through music.
- Art & Craft - a chance to express yourself and do something creative.
- Food growing - courses designed to achieve identified goals around growing food.
More information about these activities can be found on their website. SAGE also provide volunteering opportunities.
People are usually referred by their GP, Community Mental Health Team, social worker or other health professional, but self-referrals are also accepted. Contact the office for a referral form.
