Contact The Elderly
Contact the Elderly is a national charity solely dedicated to tackling loneliness and social isolation among older people.
They seek to connect older, lonely people in the community with volunteers who want to make their lives a bit better. We do this by establishing groups that host tea parties once a month on a Sunday. It is a very simple concept which we have been doing for 50 years now, helping to ease the burden of loneliness for thousands of older people.
Contact the Elderly currently have three groups in the city, but they are hoping to launch a fourth.
Members need to be 75 years old or older, living by themselves and feeling isolated and lonely, particularly on a Sunday. Each group has between 6 and 10 older members (most have 8), and 3-4 regular volunteer drivers. The groups meet at one of the bank of hosts for the group, and enjoy an afternoon tea together. The groups are ideally suited to those that struggle to get out by themselves, and enjoy doing something a little different in a very friendly, welcoming environment with a small group of people, of varying ages. Participation for members is entirely free.
