Action (formerly Action Housing)
Action is a charity providing services to vulnerable people in South Yorkshire.
In Sheffield they currently provide the following services:
Sheffield Domestic Abuse Helpline - 0808 808 2241
Monday - Friday : 8.00am - 6.00pm (not bank holidays)
You can talk to them about the abuse and work through which services might work best for you with an experienced helpline worker. Or you can email the helpline on firstname.lastname@example.org to ask for advice and information.
The helpline offers:
advice, support and safety for people experiencing domestic and sexual abuse
a service to women, men, children, young people, practitioners and worried family members
up-to-date access to services in Sheffield and available refuge spaces
The helpline can arrange an interpreter if you need one. You can also email them in your language and they will translate it and get back to you.
Domestic Abuse Outreach Service
Action also provides a city-wide outreach service for women and men which offers:
- ongoing emotional support
- practical support around housing, benefits, legal services and schools
- safety planning
- help with children
The service also runs a self-help group work programme called Power to Change. This is for women coming out of abusive relationships which focuses on changing patterns of learned behaviour. It can also be useful for women still in abusive relationships.

Independent Domestic Violence Advocates (IDVAs)
Advocates provide impartial advice and support to men and women who are a high-risk victim of domestic violence to increase saftey and reduce risk. They can support you to work with services including the police and ensure your views are represented. Referrals can be made via the helpline, the website or by contacting email@example.com.

TASC (Target & Action for Safer Communities)
This service provides housing support to people over 18 who have a history of offending. You can be supported in an existing tenancy (floating support) or get support to access a property managed by Action (supported accommodation). Support can include:
- developing confidence
- practical living skills
- managing debt, budgeting and benefits
- access to other services, for example mental health support or help with drugs and alcohol
- access to education, training and employment.
